Annual conference 2011

The CfWI’s second National Conference – Better workforce planning and improving people's lives – took place this year in two centres: London on 10 October and Leeds on 12 October.
Over 300 delegates and guests gathered to discuss workforce planning around health and social care.
The events were opened by CfWI Chief Executive Peter Sharp, and followed by keynotes from by Paul Streets, Director for Public & Patient Experience and Engagement, Department of Health, David Behan, Director General of Social Care, Local Government and Care Partnerships, and Miles Scott, Chief Executive, Bradford Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust at the London conference, and by Peter Hay, President of the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services , and Martin Barkley, Education and Training Transition Lead Provider Chief Executive for Skills Networks, in Leeds.
Workshops focusing on different areas of workforce planning – from Planning for personalisation in social care to Integrated healthcare: the perspective from Finland – took place over the course of the two days.
Mental health perspectives on workforce matters were provided by Lord Victor Adebowale, Chief Executive, Turning Point, and Emeritus Professor John Copeland, Chairman, Great Push for Mental Health in strategic alliance with the Movement for Global Mental Health.
Peter Sharp and Rafael Popper, Director of the iKnow Project, University of Manchester, discussed the theory behind horizon scanning and CfWI methodology.
Delegates also enjoyed the opportunity to see a demonstration of the later life tool, to add their comments to the graffiti board, to tweet their responses to the questions under discussion and to see the poster competition entries.
