The CfWI R&D team’s key achievements, 2013-16

Over the course of the last four years we have made a number of key achievements to improve our methodology. These include progressive improvements to each individual stage of the robust workforce planning framework, such as:

  • Expanding the structure of horizon scanning process so ideas are captured and stored in a consistent way.
  • Enhancing scenario generation, creating a richer set of consistent scenarios using cross-impact analysis.
  • Developing an approach to scenario quantification so that expert uncertainty can be modelled.
  • Documenting best practises in system dynamics model development, including new ways of modelling workforce demand, and presenting uncertainty in long-term forecasts
  • Refining the CfWI policy analysis process in the context of the UK health, social care and public health systems.
  • Strengthening the connections between the CfWI robust workforce planning framework stages.
  • Forging greater integration between horizon scanning and scenario generation through the use of workshops.
  • Using the same experts from horizon scanning through to scenario generation and quantification.
  • Advancing the analysis of model outputs to make robust workforce decisions.
  • Developing a policy analysis tool prototype to support robust decision-making.
  • Increasing learning and knowledge sharing amongst subject matter experts.
  • Attending and presenting at key conferences and events.
  • Publishing research papers demonstrating variety of applications for long-term policy modelling and analysis.
  • Sponsoring masters projects in health and care workforce planning.
  • Participating in mutually beneficial relationships with academic partners.
  • Expanding public access to CfWI publications and methods across a range of media.
  • Developing and launching a data-rich CfWI mobile application.
  • Increasing use of innovative visualisations and infographics to share research.
  • Developing a dedicated R&D area on the CfWI website.
