Cardiac physiology - MAC inclusion report September 2009

It is generally accepted that there is room for growth in the cardiac physiologist workforce. The professional body reports that Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) are reaching maximum numbers on their current courses and expanding cardiac physiology training numbers substantially will require additional infrastructure development. WRT analysis indicates that departments are at or near training capacity (clinical placements) due to training other professions. In the short-medium term the use of overseas recruitment is a sensible mechanism for alleviating shortages within the profession.
