WRT analysis indicates there is evidenced room for growth within intensive care medicine (ICM). The desired expansion of ICU beds is a significant demand driver. Efforts focused on deaneries increasing trainees in this area will improve the supply situation within the workforce in the medium to long term. Recruiting from overseas does not seem to be a viable option due to the variability in training, which could lead to inconsistencies in quality. Therefore, the use of overseas recruitment may not be a sensible mechanism for alleviating shortages within the profession.
