Midwifery MAC report March 2009

There is evidenced room for workforce growth within midwifery, especially in light of the announcement to recruit an additional 4,000 midwives to the NHS by 2012. However, midwifery training is very different overseas and international recruitment is not seen as a recognised source of supply. Therefore this report finds that the use of overseas recruitment is not a sensible mechanism for alleviating shortages within the profession.
