This report focuses on the paediatric dentistry consultant and specialist workforce. Over the past two years the specialty has worked collaboratively with PCTs to establish innovative new posts based on service need. This approach should be continued to help support growth. SHAs and deaneries should also consider strategic commissioning across SHA boundaries. However, in the short-medium term, overseas recruitment is a sensible strategy for alleviating staffing shortages for consultants and specialists in paediatric dentistry.
