Renal medicine MAC report March 2009

There is evidenced room for growth within the renal medicine workforce. The service has taken some measures in an attempt to meet the rising demand. One of these is the delivery of improved education to both patients and the population as a whole which may help to prevent the need for care at all, and hence reduce demand in the long term. Renal services are also implementing skill mix changes, which reduces the demand for trained specialists. WRT proposes that the use of overseas recruitment is a sensible mechanism for alleviating workforce shortages
