Date of interview: 30 June 2010.
Why did you agree to taking on the role of the chair of the CfWI governance board?
Dame Carol Black: The reason I was really interested in chairing this governance board is because I believe in what the Centre was set up to do. We really need to be able to provide high-quality care for patients and to do that you need the right type of people, the right skills, in the right place, at the right time and what this Centre is trying to do is to provide the evidence and information on which those decisions can be made. So for me, it was what the Centre wanted to do, wanted to achieve that I thought was terribly important and really would help the quality of patient care.
