Horizon scanning: the future NHS workforce

The CfWI has produced a briefing note discussing its horizon scanning programme, the future NHS workforce and the promotion of changing roles and skills mix.

The note was produced in reply to a question in the House of Lords on 19 July 2012 on what steps are being taken to promote changing the roles and skills mix of health workers in the National Health Service to improve access and quality, and reduce costs.

The briefing note, CfWI horizon scanning of future NHS workforce, is now available to download.

Earl Howe, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Health, welcomed the CfWI's contribution, commenting on the role of Health Education England and local providers

together with the Centre for Workforce Intelligence, which has a horizon-scanning capability, we can at last crack a nut that has been so difficult to crack in the past, that of good workforce planning in the NHS to make the workforce as productive and effective as we can.

The full transcript of the question and replies about the NHS workforce is available from the Hansard website
