Planning for the future workforce using horizon scanning
We are delighted to announce the formal launch of the CfWI horizon scanning programme with a seminar, planning for the future workforce using horizon scanning, at the Wellcome Collection in London on 12 July 2012 from 17:00–19:30.
We are bringing together 80 senior successful professionals to launch the programme and highlight the importance of conducting horizon scanning to inform workforce planning with long-term strategic thinking.
Attendees will be able to
- hear about horizon scanning at the CfWI
- listen to our speakers talk about developments likely to impact the health and social care workforce in the future
- influence our horizon scanning programme
- network with professionals across social care, health and public health

Speakers include:
Dr Alexandra Wyke, the founder of PatientView, an independent organisation committed to improving patient care. Between 1996 and April 2000, Alex was responsible for creating and running an international healthcare publishing unit at the Economist Intelligence Unit. Between 1983 and 1996, Alex was the business and science correspondent for The Economist.
Chris Evennett, an independent management consultant, specialising in the development and implementation of healthcare strategy. Chris was previously an experienced NHS manager, having worked in a wide variety of different roles such as Chief Executive of the Mid Hampshire PCT and Chief Executive of Winchester and Eastleigh NHS Healthcare Trust.
Jim Buchan, Professor at the School of Health Sciences, Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. He is also a Policy Associate at the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies, WHO, Brussels, and Adjunct Professor at the University of Technology, Sydney, Australia. Jim has had wide experience of practice, consultancy and policy research on health sector human resources and has held roles such as senior HR manager at national level in the NHS in Scotland, and HR specialist at the World Health Organisation.
