Workforce planning for social workers – a supply-and-demand model

The social worker supply-and-demand model is now available for use. The model was developed by the CfWI at the request of the Social Work Reform Board. It provides an effective way of predicting supply and demand to aid workforce planning.

The CfWI’s model contains information about the workforce and options for scenario planning. These include

  • varying the numbers of social workers in training
  • studying newly qualified social workers and those leaving

to give the forecast workforce.

The scenarios are designed to illustrate different possibilities of how the future might unfold, according to different sets of assumptions and conditions. The model provides a tool to aid decision making and aims to stimulate debate and to set out some of the issues employers and the profession should consider for workforce planning.

You can register here to use the model.
